Wandering

Quoting from the Warring States - Song - Zhuang Zhou's "Zhuang Zi - Qi Mao", the notion that once all living things come into being, they also begin the process of death; and once they die, they also mean the beginning of a new process of arising, this is the two sides of the paradox of life and death. From the beginning of affirmation, the process of negation also begins; and from the beginning of negation, the process of affirmation also begins; these are the two sides of the non-contradiction of one and the same.

The device is an earth that has been unknown for many years and has undergone countless years and changes in the immensity of the universe. The life on the planet has grown from nothing to something, from something to extinction, to the beginning of new life, and then to extinction, over and over again. Perhaps one day the Earth will also destroy itself, but as it dies, new stars will arise.

The work uses resin, storage boxes, wire, lenses, wood panels, black cardboard and colouring, plastic,silver foil.

The work relates to the environment in which life exists, and the dynamics of life. The earth is about 71% water, similar to the proportion of water in the human body. Both are important life forms, so I have used the blue material to create something like an ocean wave to compare the earth to a life form. The square box that surrounds it acts as a magnetic field and is closely connected to the earth. I suspended this blue cube in the centre of the installation with wire, and the box made of wooden panels serves as the space of the universe, while the lens, like a travelable place, keeps projecting more and more space, over and over again. The golden branch behind the installation is a forgotten fragment of the universe.

Says Beveridge: "My work questions the notion of the 'temporary': absence and displacement, identity and belonging."

In the series "Lost and Found", the concept of collective and personal identity is addressed through the everyday form of the wallet: a belonging that is often lost, stolen or misplaced, full of emotional value and full of personal memories. I began working on this piece during a three-month artist's internship in northern France. I invited local residents to come and see me in my studio and show me the contents of their wallets.

Based on the theme of traces, I emphasised the objects and details in the wallets, using printing and photographic techniques and glass to falsify history and construct identity. The resulting imagery, in photography or glass art, expresses concepts, time, memory, where the emotions tend to metaphorically explain about one's past.

The concept of artist Philippa Beveridge's work made me think about my own belonging and life and memory, thus linking to life and environment, gradually amplifying the subject.
